CULTURE NEWS

  • The Friends of the Grout Historic Houses Garden Tours and Plant Sale will feature seven local gardens Saturday from 1 to 5 p.m.—Gaylord Stauffer’s enchanted outdoor space and John Brackin’s backyard oasis are among the highlights. EDUCATION NEWS

  • Allison Rank was named founding director of UNI's new Center for Civic Education that launched with a $1 million state appropriation. She will start her role on June 30 — overseeing center activities, securing grants and building stakeholder relationships as a political science professor.  KWWL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • MET Transit is launching new transit routes today through August to connect Gates Park and Byrnes Park Aquatic Center. Revised Routes 1B, 3, and 4 will run with fixed times — including hourly service from 10:11 a.m. to 5:40 p.m. and a Youth Summer Fare of $0.25 per trip for riders 6 to 18.  KWWL
  • Waterloo Water Works will flush water mains in the area west of Ansborough Avenue—north of Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery from Jane Street to Campbell Avenue on Thursday. The maintenance aims to clear debris and ensure proper hydrant function.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
