  • The Salvation Army in Waterloo is preparing to open a warming center as temperatures drop below zero. The center on West Fifth will offer a safe refuge in January, while the Hospitality House on Mulberry stays open during December.  KWWL
  • Families can join MacNider’s annual Holiday Open House on Saturday, Dec. 13 to enjoy festive activities in a warm community setting; the event aims to bring local holiday cheer to residents.  Globe Gazette

HEALTH NEWS

  • Bambino's Bakery in Waterloo marked Giving Tuesday with a $21,000 donation to the local Beyond Pink TEAM, a group that helps women with breast cancer cover costs like transportation and financial support. Owner Donna O’Brien started the bakery’s charitable work after her own treatment and now runs two storefronts.  KWWL

SPORTS NEWS

  • UNI women’s basketball beat Illinois State 68-54 in their first MVC contest in Cedar Falls, boosting the team’s league record to 1-0. The Panthers will face Toledo Rockets on Saturday, Dec. 6 at Savage Arena (1 p.m.).  KWWL
  • Waterloo native Chris Klieman stepped down as Kansas State head coach after seven seasons with the Wildcats & a 54-34 record this year. The coach, a Columbus and UNI graduate, leaves with six years remaining on a contract paying over $5 million annually.  KWWL
