- ➤ Silos and Smokestacks National Heritage Area announced the 2025 Golden Silo Awards winners on November 6 to honor groups and individuals who have preserved Iowa's agricultural history. The awards recognized the George Maier Rural Heritage Center for storytelling, the Amana Heritage Society for preservation, Henry Corbin for his volunteer work, Farmers State Bank in Waterloo for its community support, and Reeve REA Power Generating Plant for its visionary efforts — each celebrated for their unique contributions. - ➤ Friends of the Family warned that HUD’s new rules lowering the funding guarantee to 30 percent will cost Iowa $3-4 million in housing funds and risk nearly $1 million in federal support for over 170,000 people. The nonprofit urged local residents to call Iowa’s representatives so lawmakers act to keep the funding—CEO Ben Brustkern said the change could hurt housing support statewide. KWWL
