Good morning, Waterloo.
📰 Economy
Iowa farmers are behind on harvest as heavy rains have led to only 5% of corn and 3% of soybean acres being harvested by month’s end.
Agriculture officials say combines will start work when fields dry out + crop quality remains strong.
🎓 Education
Hawkeye Community College will lead a statewide initiative to create short-term training programs that will expand Iowa’s Workforce Pell offerings by partnering with community colleges & state groups.
Allen Hospital started its 11th Project SEARCH internship program in partnership with Waterloo Schools to offer 18- to 20-year-olds hands-on job training in areas like cardiac rehab and environmental services — a program that has led several former interns to full-time roles at the hospital.
🏛️ Government
The FTC and Iowa AG reached a settlement with Corteva to end its pesticide loyalty program that raised farmers' costs.
Corteva will pay $35 million (including about $2.4 million for Iowa) and will be barred from such programs for 10 years so farmers can get lower prices.
