- ➤ Hawkeye Community College received a three-year, $407,940 AmeriCorps grant to relaunch its Senior Companion Program that will match volunteers with local seniors in need of help. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
- ➤ Fourth graders from Waterloo public and parochial schools joined the 26th annual Mayor's Fun Run — a city and school effort to promote healthy choices. Organizers said the event offered a fun way for students to learn about healthy living. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Waterloo Water Works will flush water mains on Thursday along the area from Kimball Avenue to Hammond Avenue — between East Ridgeway and East San Marnan Avenue. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
- ➤ Kate Mulgrew, a Dubuque native known for her roles (Star Trek: Voyager and Orange Is the New Black), returned on Monday to Iowa to support state Rep. Lindsay James during a tour at Feed Iowa First in Marion, where they highlighted challenges faced by small farmers and local food security. James, a Presbyterian chaplain running for the open 2nd Congressional District seat, stressed that her campaign will focus on providing better support for rural communities. Globe Gazette
