- ➤ Students, farmers and vendors look forward to the five-day National Cattle Congress Fair — featuring animals, food and education — that continues through Sunday evening. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Grout Museum District said it will permanently close the Bluedorn Science Imaginarium because it could not cover rising costs and levy funding ended, with the final day on Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and all staff keeping their jobs. Some exhibits will move to a new museum space expected to open July 1, 2026—while the old building will be demolished. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ New school ratings show 56 percent of schools across Iowa rank in the top three, and Waterloo schools saw growth in 14 of its 18 schools. Superintendent Jared Smith said the improvements show a strong focus on student success from the classroom to the district. KWWL
- ➤ The Iowa Board of Regents approved a plan to build a new center at UNI to honor Sen. Chuck Grassley who has donated papers from his work in the legislature and House. The center will serve as a hub for democratic governance studies and will house his Senate papers after he retires — the facility is set to boost UNI’s role in preserving state history. KWWL

- ➤ Rod Blum announced his campaign for Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District seat and pledged $250,000 of his own money as he seeks to return to Congress. He said his effort will focus on border security and economic growth as he joins a competitive GOP primary set for June. Globe Gazette
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Today, Allen Hospital performed the state's first endoscopic sleeve gastroplasty procedure using a camera through the mouth + a suturing device that makes the stomach smaller by sewing it into a compact shape. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

- ➤ Union beat Aplington-Parkersburg 25-7 when Cade Sorenson threw a 75-yard touchdown pass to Levi Hadachek on the third play from scrimmage, and the Knights improved to 4-0 with their fourth straight win. KWWL
- ➤ West Branch defeated Monticello 48—7 on September 19th to improve its record to 3—1 while Monticello fell to 0—4. KWWL
