ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Consumer Price Index shows coffee prices have surged to one of the highest increases in decades, and Iowa roasters report costs at a fifty year high. Some local cafes are raising prices as tariffs on imports force changes—while more customers choose to brew coffee at home.  KCRG
  • John Deere announced layoffs of 101 employees at its Waterloo operations—40 workers at the Des Moines site— as part of a planned restructuring. The cuts will help the company adjust to market changes.  Globe Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Reynolds met with Indian leaders during an eight-day trade mission and signed a deal to boost Iowa trade in agriculture and technology. The state awarded $355,000 in grants to small meat processors in nine counties—funds that will help upgrade equipment and serve local needs.  Globe Gazette
