ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A wet summer pushed Iowa’s DNR to issue 156 beach advisories on 39 sites—up from 145 last year and the highest in a decade. George Wyth Beach in Waterloo closed for five weeks due to flooding while other spots like Lake Macbride saw more advisories because heavy rains increased bacteria levels in the water.  Globe Gazette

  • The University of Northern Iowa is in the middle of a 50-million-dollar, three-phase renovation of the UNI-Dome that began in 2024, updating its roof, seating bowl, and elevator for expanded suites—efforts designed to attract more fans and international events.
