  • Grout Museum in Waterloo will host a sensory-friendly planetarium show on Saturday at 9:30 a.m.—the 30-minute star gazing is for children 5 and older and has a $3 admission fee.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

CRIME NEWS

  • A Waterloo hospital nurse, Laura Williams, was fired on April 24 for violating Covenant Medical Center’s sexual harassment policy after she showed coworkers a photo of her boyfriend’s genital piercing—she pulled down her pants to reveal a tattoo on her buttocks during a private conversation. An administrative law judge ruled that her deliberate misconduct disqualifies her from unemployment benefits.  Globe Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Cedar Falls-Waterloo American Association of University Women will hold its annual kickoff event tomorrow from 5 to 6:30 p.m. in Rooms A and B at the Waterloo Public Library — where the group will discuss scholarships and period product projects to boost educational opportunities and economic advancement for women and girls.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Waterloo city council approved the redevelopment of the Crossroads Mall site with ATI Group, with six properties closing Friday and the final two closing on September 12. Demolition will begin early next year and full work is expected by summer to fall—Geno’s Pizza will remain open until December 22.  KWWL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Riverfront Stadium in Waterloo will host College Football Day on September 6—featuring the Cy-Hawk game at 11 a.m. and a UNI Panthers matchup at 3 p.m.—with free admission on a 474-square-foot LED video board while fans must bring their own seating and no outside food or drink will be allowed.  KWWL
  • Sixth ranked Cedar Falls jumped to an early lead and swept Waterloo West — winning the match 25 to 12, 25 to 6, 25 to 23 in MVC Volleyball.  KWWL
