- ➤ The Northeast Iowa Association of Fundraising Professionals has opened nominations for National Philanthropy Day to honor local generosity with five Gift of Heart awards in the categories of philanthropy, legacy, governance, community partnerships and youth. - ➤ The Waterloo Public Library announced its events for early September and will close Monday for Labor Day. The schedule includes a retirement workshop on Tuesday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., a digital discussion on Wednesday from 5 to 6 p.m. (limited to 20 participants), a senior social hour on Thursday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., and a movie screening on Friday from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with free popcorn and soda. - ➤ The Hearst Center for the Arts in Cedar Falls is accepting applications for its 2025-26 James Hearst Writer-in-Residence program to support Cedar Valley writers with resources and community outreach events. Applicants must be at least 18 and live in the Cedar Valley for the residency term (Oct 30 to Sept 30) and submit materials by 5 p.m. (Sept 26), with the chosen writer set to receive $1,000 in two installments and subsidized studio space.
