CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Waterloo police and Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers are asking for help to identify a man caught on home security video walking through yards & looking into vehicles near Liberty Park. KWWL
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Reconstruction on Veralta Drive from Valley High Drive to Primrose Drive will begin Monday, Aug. 18 — state officials say the project will improve road conditions and traffic flow. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
- ➤ Three new officers (Nathan Elliott, Taylor McNamara, and Sead Sabanagic) were sworn in by Mayor Quentin Hart at a Monday night ceremony in Waterloo, and they will begin several months of training followed by one year of probation before gaining full certification. Waterloo police say more recruits will be sought as retirements are expected soon. KWWL

- ➤ Allen Hospital received national recognition for its stroke care after earning the Get With The Guidelines' Stroke Gold Plus Award — and it also made the Target: Type 2 Diabetes honor roll quality achievement award. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
- ➤ On August 16, the Cedar Valley Heart Walk will start at Mudd Advertising in Cedar Falls at 8 a.m. and will bring local businesses, volunteers and survivors together to boost CPR education and community readiness — with support from UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital and MercyOne Waterloo. KWWL
- ➤ Iowa now has the fastest-growing cancer rates and ranks second for overall cancer cases. Groups including Harkin Institute—along with Iowa Environmental Council and Iowa Farm Union—are hosting listening sessions across the state, with one at Waterloo Public Library where many expressed concerns about pesticide use.
