- ➤ Community Health will host its annual back-to-school bash in Waterloo where United Way will provide new shoes to each child and The Salvation Army will distribute backpacks filled with school supplies — the health center will also offer medical services. Globe Gazette
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ Jason Tetter II, a 25-year-old from Cedar Rapids, lied about his drug use to buy two guns in 2024—one gun was later used in an August Waterloo shooting that injured a person's knee—and was sentenced in March to over a year in federal prison with three years of supervised release. KCRG
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources announced that $451,176 in cost-share funding will be used for water quality improvements at eight public lakes, including $7,012.50 for Casey Lake—money that will support practices like cover crops, water and sediment control basins, and terraces in several counties. The projects will reduce nutrient loss and help protect recreational areas and wildlife habitats. KWWL
