ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A semi driver was hurt when his trailer rolled onto its side and into the median of Highway 20 last night and he was taken to MercyOne Waterloo for non-life threatening treatment — the cause is still under investigation.  KCRG

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Waterloo Center for the Arts is hosting Chroma 63, a free metal and punk music festival set for Saturday from noon to 9:30 p.m. at RiverLoop Amphitheatre. Headliner Radkey — a punk band from Missouri that has toured with Jack White — leads 10 acts with skateboarding demos, live painting, art vendors, food trucks, and a free afterparty at 10 p.m. at The Loft.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Waterloo topped Iowa’s largest cities in water and sewer affordability based on the 2024 Water and Sewer Rate Survey with a residential rate of $49.36 for six CCF and the lowest commercial rate for 1,000 CCF — city officials credit efficient utility management and infrastructure upgrades for keeping rates low.  KWWL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Allen College is set to expand its Simulation Lab in McElroy Hall with a $500,000 donation from Jim and Judy Fogdall—this $3 million project will add over 8,000 square feet including new classrooms, a nurses’ station, home health space, and debriefing rooms, with groundbreaking planned for fall and completion expected by 2027.  KWWL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Iowa Health and Human Services reported a third case of measles in Iowa involving an unvaccinated child from Johnson County. Health nurse Heather Meador explained that those without immunity who are exposed risk becoming sick and may face quarantine if they are not tested or vaccinated within 72 hours.  KCRG
