COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The City of Waterloo will hold the grand opening for the newly renovated Byrnes Aquatic Center at 11:45 a.m. Thursday.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
  • Waterloo's Lincoln Park will host the second Friday Loo on June 13 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m.—the event will feature live music by Never the Less and food from vendors like BBQ Brazil, Chick-Fil-A and Dominique’s Seafood. Main Street Waterloo officials said the event will build on the success of the first Friday Loo and bring a community atmosphere for local families.  KWWL
  • Relay for Life of Black Hawk County is hosting its annual event on Friday at Hawkeye Community College to mark 40 years of the fundraiser (a milestone achievement) as it continues its community efforts.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Waterloo Community School District is reviewing its student transportation services by issuing an RFP on pricing, bus specifications, and timelines as it considers insourcing operations instead of continuing with its current contract with First Student—vendor proposals are due June 20, and the current contract runs until the end of the 2025 to 2026 school year.  KWWL
  • Silos and Smokestacks is holding summer farm-themed programs for children that include a farm book read aloud, fun activities, and a take-home activity sheet (more details coming).   • Waterloo Water Works will flush water mains from Elmwood Cemetery to Campbell Avenue between Locust Street and Byrnes Park on Thursday.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
  • State Rep. Bob Kressig said he is proud of the expanded health care coverage for firefighters and first responders approved during this year's legislative session. He said the change will support the safety of those who serve our community.  Globe Gazette
  • State Rep. Josh Meggers said he is proud that limits on eminent domain for CO2 pipelines have passed the legislature—he said the measure is meant to protect property rights. He added that officials will review the rule's impact on future pipeline projects—more information is expected soon.  Globe Gazette
