ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Thursday the old Waterloo Candy Co. building along West Park Avenue partially fell in downtown Waterloo and no one was hurt, with officials telling people to stay 60 feet away while owner Rich Penn will decide whether to fix or demolish the structure—the staging area for My Waterloo Days has been slightly moved.  KWWL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Taste of La Hacienda, a family-run Mexican restaurant, returned when the owners bought a food truck in March and began serving take and bake as well as hot fresh food on alternating Sundays in May. The restaurant honors its family traditions as it reconnects with local diners.  Globe Gazette

CRIME NEWS

  • A Cedar Falls woman is in jail on a $1,000,000 bond after she fatally shot her husband on June 4 when he chased their dog with a cane—she warned him before firing as court documents state.  KWWL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Waterloo Community School District announced East High School's graduating class of 2025 on Thursday at a commencement ceremony held at the McLeod Center in Cedar Falls. Graduates received their diplomas and the list of names was released during the event.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

  • City Council voted down the Legacy 19 apartment development — a petition opposing the project triggered a supermajority vote requirement that was not met — and the proposal has ended.  Globe Gazette
