GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Iowa Workforce Development said today that the unemployment system will go dark from today until June 2 + the new system will let Iowans file claims and search for jobs on one website starting June 3.  KCRG
  • Iowa law enforcement will begin issuing warnings on handheld cellphone use while driving on July 1 as Senate File 22 takes effect—local experts advise drivers to set up Bluetooth, put phones out of reach, finish work before driving, and let passengers manage calls to avoid future penalties.   • The Iowa National Guard is holding a send-off ceremony today in Waterloo at Cedar Falls High School for 1,800 Iowa soldiers being deployed to the Middle East for Operation Inherent Resolve - 24 ceremonies are scheduled statewide through May 30.
