GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Kim Reynolds said on Friday that she will spend the interim working on property tax reform as the Legislature left the issue unaddressed in the recent session—she plans to meet with Iowans and stakeholders over the summer. Reynolds also cautioned that eliminating the income tax by the end of her term would be aggressive and ruled out shifting school funding from local property taxes to the state’s general fund.  Globe Gazette
  • Waterloo’s public works sanitation department will be closed tomorrow (Memorial Day) with no waste collection services scheduled. City officials (from public works) said normal pickup times will resume after the holiday.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
