- ➤ A Waterloo woman faces animal neglect charges after police rescued 14 malnourished animals (7 dogs and 7 cats) from a garage on Allen Street, with the animals now receiving treatment at Cedar Bend Humane Society as she awaits her court appearance on May 28. KWWL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ten Black Hawk County teachers were honored with the 2026 Gold Star Awards today after more than 730 nominations of 266 educators. They each received $1,000 for classroom upgrades + a $1,000 honorarium through a 38-year partnership with KWWL and the R.J. McElroy Trust. KWWL
- ➤ Waterloo Schools named six head coaches for the unified Waterloo United athletic programs to boost school sports. Appointments include AJ Cassidy for volleyball; Tyler Borneman for boys cross country; Nekoda Garbes for girls cross country; Chris Tims for wrestling; Brandon Steen for boys bowling; and Mike Weber for girls bowling.
