CULTURE NEWS

  • The Bluedorn Science Imaginarium in Waterloo is set to be demolished despite a buyer offer, as Grout Museum District will use the site to add new STEM exhibits and protect nearby historic houses (demolition is estimated to cost about $100,000).  KWWL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • La Porte Road will be closed for construction starting May 26, from near the Holiday Inn/Motel 6 driveway to north of Bopp Street. A detour via San Marnan Drive, Sears Street, Crossroads Boulevard and Grimm Street ensures access for local businesses.  KWWL
  • Waterloo City Council approved a letter of intent for McDonald's to buy four parcels of land on Commercial Street across from Young Arena. The fast-food chain will have 180 days to secure permits before its plans move forward.  KWWL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Former Waterloo Black Hawks forward Brett Olson has been named head coach — making him the first former player to lead the team since the early 1980s. The announcement came Tuesday and Olson brings four years of coaching experience as associate head coach to the role.  KWWL
