  • On Saturday, 14 veterans in Waterloo received handmade Quilts of Valor from American Legion Post 138 as a thank you for their service—Post Commander Mike Hudson, a Vietnam veteran, also received his quilt during the ceremony.  KWWL

CRIME NEWS

  • Black Hawk County Sheriff evacuated the Dunkerton Library neighborhood after a person in a home made threats to officers, and police report there is no one else inside (with a heavy police presence still in the area).  KCRG
  • The Black Hawk County Sheriff's Office confirmed an overnight standoff at a Dunkerton home on Williams Street ended peacefully—deputies responded after a person allegedly made threats to officers and neighbors were evacuated to the high school, with no one else found in the home.  KWWL

HEALTH NEWS

  • A federal court approved a settlement that will improve mental health care for children in Iowa. The case was filed in 2023 by three Medicaid-eligible children—this settlement is expected to enhance treatment options for young patients.  Globe Gazette
