- ➤ VFW Post 1623 in Waterloo closed its doors after failing to elect new leaders amid ongoing financial troubles. Only five of over 80 members attended a meeting to fill officer roles, and officials say the post could reopen with a new number if 25 members (15 new) join. KWWL
- ➤ Cedar Bend Humane Society opens its new public dog park for community use today, with sessions also on May 15 and 17. The park has indoor climate-controlled spaces, outdoor fenced areas, and both communal play and private rentals (first-time visitors must register online). KWWL
- ➤ Local law enforcement gathered Wednesday for the annual Black Hawk County Peace Officer Memorial Service to honor 14 officers killed in service since 1902, with names read aloud to mark their sacrifice & Waterloo Police Chief Rob Duncan stressing the need for constant vigilance in an uncertain line of duty.
