VFW Post 1623 in Waterloo closed its doors after failing to elect new leaders amid ongoing financial troubles.

Only five of over 80 members attended a meeting to fill officer roles, and officials say the post could reopen with a new number if 25 members (15 new) join.

Cedar Bend Humane Society opens its new public dog park for community use today, with sessions also on May 15 and 17.
