- ➤ Waterloo Historic Preservation Commission has named Cierra Newman and Pinecrest Construction LLC as its 2026 honorees; awards will be presented tomorrow (Thursday) to honor their work in preserving local heritage. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
- ➤ Cedar Valley Arboretum & Botanic Gardens is celebrating its 30th anniversary; the 40-acre oasis was founded in 1996 and sits just east of Hawkeye Community College (1927 E. Orange Road). Locals can expect more details on anniversary events soon. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Waterloo Schools will add five minutes to the school day for the 2026-27 year, with elementary students attending from 8:45 a.m. to 3:50 p.m. and secondary students from 7:40 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
- ➤ Josh Barta has been appointed as assistant principal at Waterloo Career Center for the 2026-27 school year. The Waterloo Schools Board approved his appointment Monday night and he will begin his new role when classes start. KWWL
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Casey Lake at Hickory Hills Park reopened after a two-year restoration led by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources and Black Hawk County Conservation. The project improved water quality for local fish and enhanced recreation for the park's roughly 25,000 annual visitors. KWWL

- ➤ The Waterloo Black Hawks and head coach Scott Gordon parted ways (16-42-4 record in one season). The team will announce updates to its hockey operations staff later. KWWL
