EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Hawkeye Community College’s board approved an $89.6 million budget for the 2025-26 school year Tuesday—this includes an 8.1% increase in property tax askings to support the college's future improvements. Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Waterloo approved its budget and added eight cents (to fund Grout) to the proposed levy, and the city is set to bring in $53.84 million from property taxes (a 1.3% increase). Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
- ➤ The Iowa House passed a bill allowing schools to form safety assessment teams that include officials, law enforcement, mental health professionals and social services to share information on early warning signs for school threats— the Senate already approved this measure and it now goes to Gov. Reynolds for her signature. Gov. Reynolds also ordered flags lowered to half-mast to honor Pope Francis and the House advanced a bill to permit psilocybin for PTSD treatment while a state funding bill for federal block grants awaits further action.
