COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Waterloo is activating its downtown inflatable dam today. When fully inflated, the dam will raise the upstream river level by about four feet to boost boating and recreational activities.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

  • Waterloo Community Playhouse will present 'Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street' Friday, offering an engaging musical thriller for local audiences.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

ECONOMY NEWS

  • First Student—a Waterloo-based school bus service—will close on June 30, affecting 120 workers; employees were notified on April 2 via Iowa WARN. The shutdown will take place later this year.  KCRG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Waterloo School District will switch to Durham Transportation after its contract with First Student ends June 30 because of a budget deficit. The change will affect 120 employees as Durham plans to offer retained workers positions for the 2026-27 school year.  KWWL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • George Wyth State Park beach is closed this season due to construction and no confirmed concessionaire (other park facilities like the campground, picnic areas, and bike trails remain open). The park aims to resume beach operations in 2027.  KWWL

HEALTH NEWS

  • UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital opened a new rehab facility for cardiac and pulmonary care today in North Crossing. The building at 2134 Logan Ave (next to UnityPoint Clinic Express) offers patients a dedicated space for recovery.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
