The Northeast Iowa Food Bank will host its annual Empty Bowls fundraiser event on Friday.
The evening will include a presentation by the food bank team that will announce its future plans and will feature a live auction, silent auction, raffles and a soup buffet.
The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa awarded its first cycle of grants—26 grants totaling $482,000—to nonprofits in Black Hawk County.
The funds will support local programs and services.
The Iowa Eats Food & Drink Festival will return to Waterloo Convention Center on Saturday to bring food lovers together.
The event will offer a wide range of dishes to try.

The latest episode of PBS show Ireland with Michael featured Waterloo’s Iowa Irish Fest, showing live music, clothing vendors and whiskey tasting events — a showcase of the local celebration.
🏛️ Government
Gov. Reynolds signed a hands-free driving law on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. (making Iowa the 31st state with the law) that bans using handheld cellphones while driving, and police will begin issuing warnings in July with fines starting next year.
