  • The Northeast Iowa Food Bank will host its annual Empty Bowls fundraiser event on Friday. The evening will include a presentation by the food bank team that will announce its future plans and will feature a live auction, silent auction, raffles and a soup buffet.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
  • The Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa awarded its first cycle of grants—26 grants totaling $482,000—to nonprofits in Black Hawk County. The funds will support local programs and services.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Reynolds signed a hands-free driving law on Wednesday at 10:15 a.m. (making Iowa the 31st state with the law) that bans using handheld cellphones while driving, and police will begin issuing warnings in July with fines starting next year.  KCRG
