  • Waterloo’s Youth Art Team received a $67,000 cultural sustainability grant from the Wallace Foundation + the grant supports a program to boost local arts. GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Supporters of an amended bill to expand cancer coverage for Iowa firefighters and police said the proposal is now moving in the Senate + previous attempts to pass similar legislation had failed. Advocates hope the measure will soon improve benefits for first responders.  Globe Gazette
  • Waterloo Water Works will continue its hydrant flushing program tomorrow—April 3—when crews flush water mains from Cedar Bend Street to Candlewick Road and from West Donald Street to Greenbrier Road.  Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier
  • Lawmakers held hearings last week on property tax reform proposals—Senate Study Bill 1208 and House Study Bill 313—that aim to cut Iowa taxes by an estimated $426 million over five years while simplifying the rollback system. Rep. Bobby Kaufmann said the bill will move to committee in two weeks as officials continue to gather feedback, and local groups warned a 2% cap on levy growth could reduce funds for essential services.  Globe Gazette
