- ➤ Bryan Lee Mueller, 48, died when his Waterloo home exploded intentionally on Wednesday — officials confirmed the explosion was isolated to his residence, MidAmerican Energy found the gas system was not at fault, and affected neighbors are advised to contact their insurance companies. KWWL

- ➤ On Friday, the University of Northern Iowa held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for its new Applied Engineering building in Cedar Falls while dozens of protestors gathered nearby to express discontent with state and federal policies after Governor Reynolds did not attend as planned—UNI said she sent her regrets. Faculty and alumni said the new facility is expected to boost recruitment and address the growing need in construction management and engineering. KWWL
- ➤ The University of Northern Iowa completed its nearly three-year renovation of the Applied Engineering Building on March 28th in Cedar Falls—expanding the facility with 40,000 square feet of new laboratory and collaborative space and renovating an additional 60,000 square feet. The project received a $40 million state investment and $3 million in private donations, and UNI is still raising extra funds to exceed its goal of over $4 million while partnering with companies like John Deere Waterloo Works to meet workforce demand.
