- ➤ The Waterloo Bucks are looking for host families to house college players this summer. They will hold an info meeting on Monday, Mar. 30 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at The Other Place (on University Avenue in Cedar Falls) where team officials and current host families will share details. KWWL
- ➤ The Salvation Army in Waterloo began expanding its kitchen on Thursday to improve its year-round meal program (the project is expected to be done in three to four months) as demand for hot lunches grows. KWWL
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Iowa Legislature recognized UNI's 150 years of service — a milestone celebrated on UNI Day at the Capitol that honored the school’s commitment to affordable education for Iowa students. KWWL
- ➤ Fifty-four high school robotics teams from seven states began competing yesterday in Cedar Falls at the University of Northern Iowa for the FIRST Robotics Competition Iowa Regional. Practice matches started Thursday, with qualifiers today and playoffs Saturday + events are free to the public. KWWL
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A new report by the Iowa Environmental Council and Harkin Institute finds Iowa’s cancer rates are high — linking risks from pesticides, PFAS, nitrates and radon to environmental contamination. The study advises testing for radon in homes and better water treatment for well users. KWWL
