  • Barbie, a cuddly cat from Cedar Bend Humane Society, is searching for her forever family in Waterloo. A stray since September, she enjoys being brushed and played with (contact the shelter for adoption details).  KWWL

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Downtown bar The Loft reopened under new ownership this past Saturday with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by Mayor Dave Boesen. Co-owner Dana Zick said the venue will operate from Thursday through Saturday at 5:00 p.m. and serve as a community hub with live music & a welcoming atmosphere.  KWWL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Hoover Middle School 8th Grade Drama Club will debut their original play Murder on the Dance Floor at Hope Martin Stage in Waterloo Center for the Arts on Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. and Feb. 7 at 2 p.m., with $5 tickets available.  KWWL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Waterloo Community School District has updated its new high school project with a search for its first principal (applications due January 16) while construction of major facilities continues. The school, adopting the Titans mascot and using new branding starting April 1, plans to open in fall 2028.  KWWL

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Demolition crews continue work at Crossroads Mall near the former Dillard's location as plans to redevelop the site — adding retail, restaurants, and apartments — move forward; last week's work removed the old Sears Automotive Center, and the city is set to complete more changes soon.  KWWL
